Business Telephone
Systems-Adding Additional Lines
One of the biggest problems when setting up a home
business is developing a business telephone system for your
home. You want to present yourself as a legitimate
business but at the same time you don't want to spend too much
money.
For many years I faced this problem since I've had several
home businesses for decades. The good old phone company
was always happy to add an additional line in my home. If
my memory serves me correctly, it used to cost in the area of
$30 monthly, just for the service of an additional line.
Of course you then needed to purchase all the "Bells and
Whistles" that we've come to use such as call waiting, call
forwarding and so forth. Needless to say, it wasn't
unusual at all to have a $200 to $300 monthly telephone bill
when you added in long distance calling.
Eventually the phone company did start providing practical
benefits like distinctive ringing so you could at least
set up 2 phone numbers on one line. Of course the problem
here was you still only had the one line for outgoing calls and
you needed additional equipment to separate answering
machines. But again, the additional charges kept mounting
up.
Finally I've found a solution to the home business telephone
system problem. There are several companies who have
entered the field of 'voice over IP' (VOIP for short). If
you are not familiar with this term, this enables you to have
all the benefits of your old local phone line only provides the
service over your broadband internet connection.
The only negative I have found is there is a controversy
concerning the effectiveness of any 911 service due to your
connection being via the internet. But if you have a cell
phone as the over whelming majority of Americans do today, this
isn't really an issue. Of course the other requirement
which might be considered a negative is the fact that you need
a broadband connection. But most home businesses already
have this in place.
I've had VOIP service for a couple years now and have
been very happy with it. The best deal for a home
business offered unlimited calling within the USA and Canada
for under $25 per month. Needless to say, this was a
sweet improvement over the $250 phone bills I had been paying
for years for my original business telephone system with
multiple lines.
This year I found an even better deal which led me to
dropping my original VOIP service. The original VOIP
service required me to pay around $50 per month for two
telephone lines. Now with the MagicJack system shown
here, I paid $50 for the first YEAR and only $20 per year after
that.
Plus, even at paying $20 per year, you still get all
the benefits that have become a necessity to the small business
owner. So all you need is a later model PC with a couple
of USB connections and you are good to go.
You also can select the telephone number from just about any
zip code around the country. If your main market area is
in California and you live in New Jersey, no problem.
Select a phone number from California and your customer base
will assume you are in their local area.
The other benefit of this VOIP system is you can easily take
your USB card with you on business trips. With a simple
head set your laptop becomes your business phone from anywhere
you can connect to the internet broadband hook up.
Believe me when I say, this is a no brainer for any small
business owner. I've got one for each of my main
businesses and no one calling would have a clue that they are
speaking over the internet. I highly recommend this as a
solution to your home business telephone system needs.
